Established in 1929, Brigidine College is an Independent Catholic Girls’ Secondary College owned by the Brigidine Sisters and administered for them by an Incorporated Board of Directors. The Brigidine vision of creating a better world through education remains central to the College’s philosophy. To this end, the extensive academic and co-curricular offerings create life-long learners empowered to build a more just society, within the school and beyond it.
Set in the quiet, leafy suburb of Indooroopilly, the College has superb educational facilities which serve just over 600 students. The College’s buildings and surrounds constitute a relaxed environment where students can experience personal success and an enhanced sense of community due to the optimum size of the site and student numbers.
The College provides a range of curriculum pathways to meet the diverse learning needs and career aspirations of its students. The educational opportunities are enhanced by the strong focus on literacy/numeracy and ICT skills and understandings. Brigidine graduates are found in many professional roles in the community as the College has a proven record of strong academic achievement.
The curriculum opportunities are balanced by a broad co-curricular programme in sports, performing arts and public speaking. Integrated pastoral care and social justice programmes support and challenge students on their learning journey to become strong and gentle women.
Although Brigidine College is the smallest school in the interschool Catholic Girls’ Schools Sports competition, it has set a new benchmark by holding the Percentage Shields in all three competitions (Swimming, Cross Country & Athletics) since 2005. No other school has ever achieved this.
The Brigidine College community is blessed by a rich past, fully engaged in the present and ready to face the future with confidence and hope. The continuing strong growth in enrolments has necessitated the creation of a new House, to maintain the close-knit pastoral nature of the school. Also a new performing arts complex, aptly named The Brigid Centre will be completed in 2010-11. This building with its focus on art, music, dance and drama will become the creative ‘heart’ of a school which is already known for its big heartedness.
