THE YEARS 1-5 JUNIOR SCHOOL STRUCTURE
For students in Years 1 – 5 our curriculum is delivered within the following class structure:
Stage 1 = Year 1
Stage 2 = Years 2 and 3
Stage 3 = Years 3 and 5
This structure allows scope for:
• Journey grouping in Mathematics and English
• Inclusion of specialist elective programs covering Physical Education, LOTE (Japanese) and Music Key Learning Areas.
• A two year integrated program cycle in the remaining Key Learning Areas delivered in Home Groups.
• Assessment and reporting using a continua of learning described in “Level Outcomes”
• Inclusion of a Pastoral Care Program with lesson time allocation and identified resources.
• In Queensland, curriculum is written in six different ‘levels’ or ‘stages’ for P-9 students allowing students in Stage 4 two years to achieve each level and students in Stage 5 to achieve each level.
THE YEARS 6-9 MIDDLE SCHOOL STRUCTURE
The Middle School Sub-school of Peace delivers curriculum within the following class structure
Stage 4 = Years 6 and 7
Stage 5 = Years 8 and 9
The number of classes in each stage is dependent upon enrolments. Usually three classes in Stage 4 and three classes in each of Stage 5.
This structure allows scope for:
• Journey grouping in Mathematics and English
• Inclusion of specialist elective program covering the Arts, Health & Physical Education, ICT (computing), Music, Technology Education and Visual Arts (Stage 4).
• A two year (and where appropriate integrated) program cycle in the remaining Key Learning Areas delivered in Core Groups.
• Assessment and reporting using a continua of learning described in “Level Outcomes”.
• Inclusion of a Pastoral Care Program with lesson time allocation and identified resources.
• A Middle School sports program involving Years 6/7 and Years 8/9 in both Intra-School and Inter-School Competitions.
THE SENIOR SCHOOL CURRICULUM DELIVERY
Year 10 Subjects Offered
In Year 10 students at Peace will study from two sets of subjects:
Group A These are compulsory for all students:
Core Subjects
Christian Studies, English, Mathematics, Science, Study of Society and the Environment, Sport and Recreation.
Group B Students will study 2 elective subjects from the following:
Art, Business Education, Drama, German (by Distance Education), Health & Physical Education, Home Economics, Industrial Technology and Design, Information Technology, Japanese, Music.
Students are encouraged to choose elective subjects for a whole year however it is possible to change to another subject at the end of a Semester.
NB – Japanese, German and Music must be studied for both Semesters.
YEAR 11 & 12 CURRICULUM DELIVERY
Students in Year 11 are offered a broad choice of subjects. It is highly recommended that students choose six subjects, however in special circumstances five subjects will be sufficient.
English or English Communication and then any combination of Category A or Authority Registered to make up a total of six.
QSA “Category A” Subjects are those which follow a Queensland Studies Authority syllabus. The School Work program for this type of subject has been accredited by the QSA. QSA Subjects are required for a Tertiary entrance (OP) Score.
QSA “Authority Registered” Subjects have a Vocational Content. They generally lead on to TAFE studies. The School Work Program is accredited by the Queensland Studies Authority. These subjects do not contribute towards an OP Score, but do appear on the QCE and the School Exit Certificate.
