THE YEARS 1-5 JUNIOR SCHOOL STRUCTURE
For students in Years 1 – 5 our curriculum is delivered within the following class structure:

Stage 1 = Year 1
Stage 2 = Years 2 and 3
Stage 3 = Years 3 and 5

This structure allows scope for:
• Journey grouping in Mathematics and English
• Inclusion of specialist elective programs covering Physical Education, LOTE (Japanese) and Music Key Learning Areas.
• A two year integrated program cycle in the remaining Key Learning Areas delivered in Home Groups.
• Assessment and reporting using a continua of learning described in “Level Outcomes”
• Inclusion of a Pastoral Care Program with lesson time allocation and identified resources.
• In Queensland, curriculum is written in six different ‘levels’ or ‘stages’ for P-9 students allowing students in Stage 4 two years to achieve each level and students in Stage 5 to achieve each level.

THE YEARS 6-9 MIDDLE SCHOOL STRUCTURE
The Middle School Sub-school of Peace delivers curriculum within the following class structure
Stage 4 = Years 6 and 7
Stage 5 = Years 8 and 9

The number of classes in each stage is dependent upon enrolments. Usually three classes in Stage 4 and three classes in each of Stage 5.

This structure allows scope for:
• Journey grouping in Mathematics and English
• Inclusion of specialist elective program covering the Arts, Health & Physical Education, ICT (computing), Music, Technology Education and Visual Arts (Stage 4).
• A two year (and where appropriate integrated) program cycle in the remaining Key Learning Areas delivered in Core Groups.
• Assessment and reporting using a continua of learning described in “Level Outcomes”.
• Inclusion of a Pastoral Care Program with lesson time allocation and identified resources.
• A Middle School sports program involving Years 6/7 and Years 8/9 in both Intra-School and Inter-School Competitions.


THE SENIOR SCHOOL CURRICULUM DELIVERY
Year 10 Subjects Offered
In Year 10 students at Peace will study from two sets of subjects:
Group A These are compulsory for all students:
Core Subjects
Christian Studies, English, Mathematics, Science, Study of Society and the Environment, Sport and Recreation.

Group B Students will study 2 elective subjects from the following:
Art, Business Education, Drama, German (by Distance Education), Health & Physical Education, Home Economics, Industrial Technology and Design, Information Technology, Japanese, Music.

Students are encouraged to choose elective subjects for a whole year however it is possible to change to another subject at the end of a Semester.

NB – Japanese, German and Music must be studied for both Semesters.


YEAR 11 & 12 CURRICULUM DELIVERY
Students in Year 11 are offered a broad choice of subjects. It is highly recommended that students choose six subjects, however in special circumstances five subjects will be sufficient.

English or English Communication and then any combination of Category A or Authority Registered to make up a total of six.

QSA “Category A” Subjects are those which follow a Queensland Studies Authority syllabus. The School Work program for this type of subject has been accredited by the QSA. QSA Subjects are required for a Tertiary entrance (OP) Score.

QSA “Authority Registered” Subjects have a Vocational Content. They generally lead on to TAFE studies. The School Work Program is accredited by the Queensland Studies Authority. These subjects do not contribute towards an OP Score, but do appear on the QCE and the School Exit Certificate.

BOARDING
Being co-educational, Peace is committed to educating boys and girls together so that they may develop mature understanding of other people which will be the foundation for a satisfying working and social life.

Boarders at Peace are part of a family.  Experienced live-in house parents in each of the boarding houses ensure that boarding at Peace is homelike and caring, providing a safe haven that aims to nurture Christian, ethical and moral standards.

STRUCTURE
Supervised interaction and appropriate segregation.

Our students are permitted to mingle freely during the school day.  Classes are mixed and boarders eat their meals together.  However, restrictions are placed on the amount of time boys and girls may spend together after school. 

Boarders’ participate in supervised study in the evening and the weekends are closely supervised.  Boy’s dormitories are strictly out of bounds to the girls and vice versa.

Boarding provides an opportunity for the growth of lifelong friendships, exposure to other cultures and the development of character, self-discipline, leadership and initiative.

The residential section is organized into 5 houses, 2 houses for senior boys, 1 house for junior boys and 2 houses for girls.  The houses are structured to parallel a family situation by having boarders of differing ages in the one house.  The houses together accommodate a total of 93 boarders.

COMMUNITY
A number of opportunities exist where Peace families can meet socially to build relationships with the Peace staff as well as with other families within the Peace Community.

Christian Ethos informs relationships between staff and students and shapes the whole College environment. Regular Christian worship and Christian Studies is part of the curriculum.

Individuals matter. Students are allowed and encouraged to develop their individuality within appropriate bounds. Core values of mutual respect, personal responsibility, acceptance of difference, consideration and forgiveness and reconciliation are practiced at Peace.

At Peace, we aim to offer a broad and integrated program in a Christian context. We see education as much more than just an academic endeavour. We seek to develop students intellectually, socially, physically, emotionally and spiritually. We use government curriculum frameworks and meet all accreditation requirements. Excellence is an aim of all aspects of what we do.

Our Christian faith is important to us and it informs our operation at all levels. We provide a safe and secure environment in which students can learn effectively.

While we understand and accept that not all will share our faith, we expect our students and their parents to respect and support our Christian practices and values.
