Rockhampton Girls Grammar School is set atop Athelstane Range overlooking Rockhampton in Queensland, Australia. Rockhampton is regarded as a leading centre of education for students of all ages.Besides offering excellent educational opportunities for younger primary and secondary school students in Central Queensland, continuing students also have access to the Central Queensland University (CQU) which has established a first-class reputation for its educational offerings, particularly in Business, Health and Engineering. CQU offers a host of mainstream and alternative pathways to tertiary study for girls wishing to continue their education. The Girls Grammar School also works in partnership with the Rockhampton College of TAFE which offers an excellent variety of courses and study options for girls seeking to broaden their education. Our girls have the option of taking up school-based traineeships and vocational education (Voc Ed) subjects as part of their courses.

Principal's Welcome

Hello and welcome.
Bev Mouritz

First introduced to the Girls Grammar in 1988 when appointed as a teacher of physical education, I was enthralled by the ambience within the School created by members of the School community and the mix of traditional with new. In the 1990s I began teaching mathematics and subsequently accepted a variety of leadership positions including the Head of KLA Mathematics, Head of Weaver House (Pastoral Care), Assistant Principal - Students (Pastoral Care) and most recently, Acting Principal of Rockhampton Girls Grammar. My two daughters are graduates of RGGS and remain strong advocates of the advantages of single sex education.

Education today is provided by a variety of means and sectors. The element of choice is a vital component of parental selection of what type of education best matches family value structures. Education is more than attending school and learning facts.

Rockhampton Girls Grammar recognizes that education comprises more than academic progress. At RGGS, students encounter a learning environment attuned to individual students, including those with specific learning needs such as giftedness in particular areas and the needs of those with learning disabilities. The School ethos is one of appreciation and concern for others in the community and acknowledges the conviction that within the shelter of the girls-only environment, young women develop a self-belief that girls can achieve in whatever field they choose. The blend of traditional and contemporary ensures that the young women of Rockhampton Girls Grammar use the values of the past to develop skills to meet the challenges of the future.

At RGGS, day students are enrolled from Prep to Year 12, with boarding commencing at Year 6. Our aim is to ensure the caring nature of the smaller school remains. We acknowledge that different educational sectors have advantages to offer students. Families must undertake research to match the school with the family and, specifically, the student needs.

The choice factor is important. By financially supporting all educational types, Australian governments acknowledge the need to determine what a family desires -

* single sex or co-educational;
* boarding or day student;
* Prep to Year 12 continuum of learning or separate primary and secondary campuses;
* church affiliated or non-denominational.

Rockhampton Girls Grammar School recognizes the need for many country families to seek boarding facilities to educate their children. I urge you to consider the choices available to families who may be considering boarding their daughters away from home for future educational experiences. The educational opportunities on offer at RGGS equal our metropolitan counterparts, but at a substantially lower cost to families.

Your interest in visiting the School website and this page demonstrates you are determining the best educational facility for your daughter. I extend a warm welcome to you to visit with us and see what we have to offer your daughter.
