Curriculum:

Meaningful learning is the core business of our College and this is achieved through the development of curriculum that is relevant to the interests of our students. Lecture-style teaching is avoided and a student-centred approach is used.
Teachers plan lessons where students are actively involved in their own learning and the teacher is the facilitator of the learning process. Consequently, when walking past a classroom, the visitor can expect to see students engaged in discussing, debating, and constructing while using graphic organisers and effective thinking strategies to investigate and problem solve. While this type of classroom is exciting and vibrant, the learning is underpinned by a Christian world view that God is the creator of everything. Christian values, which are taught and modelled, infuse the atmosphere of the classroom where learning takes place in a disciplined and well-controlled but stimulating environment.

ARTS ON TWILIGHT

A fairytale fashion parade, short film awards and digital art creation all took place under a sunset and sky full of stars at Suncoast Christian College’s Arts on Twilight this week. The annual festival is a showcase of students’ artwork, photography, musical and sewing ability. It also raises money for various charity groups through food and handicraft stalls.

Parents, students and friends meandered through the festival; stopping to listen to the various students busking, and taking part in the interactive art and music stalls to make earrings, draw a chalk masterpiece or build a paper lantern.

And then there was the dilemma of choosing from all the delectable home baking on offer.

A lovely evening was had by everyone with all students particularly keen to show their parents what artwork they had on display.

CHAMPIONSHIP TWISTER

When you are looking for a way to get to know your fellow classmates, what better way to get up close and personal then a round of championship Twister!

The Year 12 students at Suncoast Christian College made a decision this year to spend one lunchtime a week running events for Middle and Senior School students to provide an opportunity to mingle with students from all year levels and create a real college community.

Events so far this year have included a Year 11 vs Year 12 soccer match and a Junior Primary lunchtime disco.

However last week it was all about twisting themselves in knots. Amongst the music, squeals and laughter is was great to see the Year 7-12 students bonding, albeit on plastic sheets of coloured dots.
