Toowoomba Grammar School is the leading boys’ day and boarding school in regional Queensland. From Prep to Year 12, every boy at TGS is given the tools to forge their own path; with an inspiring academic program and remarkable opportunities designed to ignite their passion for learning. Being cared for as an individual and encouraged by their peers, students are supported to achieve their personal best and grow into men of good character ready for lives of meaning and success.

The School has an excellent academic reputation, with the majority of Year 12 leavers proceeding to university.  Exceptional vocational education opportunities and school-based traineeships are also available through the School’s vocational education program.

Our boys and their families develop a strong sense of community and love for the School that often continues well past a boy’s graduation with involvement in the School’s Old Boy Association.  It is a community where memories are made, lifelong friendships are forged and connections extend well beyond the School gates.

Boarding is a fundamental component of Toowoomba Grammar School and we value the positive influence that these boys have on our School community. Our boarding family consists of approximately 300 boys who come from all over Australia, Papua New Guinea, China, Hong Kong, South Pacific Islands and Europe. They are attracted here because TGS offers all the facilities and opportunities of equivalent schools in metropolitan areas, but we have the advantage of being based in a beautiful, relaxed regional area. Toowoomba is situated just an hour and a half from Queensland’s capital, Brisbane, only two hours from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and is known as being a warm and inclusive community with strong, traditional family values.

We understand that choosing a suitable school for your son will be one of the most important decisions your family will make.

Welcome to Toowoomba Grammar School. I would like to thank you for considering our outstanding School. Our purpose is to educate boys and develop good character for life. Boys graduate from TGS with the skills to be independent, well-balanced, and successful. We want them to respond well to challenges and achieve life-long wellbeing.

Our School has a rich history and tradition dating back to 1875. It was established under the Grammar Schools Act of 1860 by local businessmen and pastoralists to provide a quality education designed for boys, so TGS was effectively built by the community for the community.

We are a non-denominational, independent day and boarding school for boys from Prep to Year 12. TGS has built its reputation upon high quality teaching, excellent academic results, outstanding pastoral care and a holistic approach to the education and formation of young men. We provide a balanced education for boys with a strong emphasis on the development of character as we recognise the dynamic world our boys will embrace when they leave, and we want to prepare them for that.

We understand that the quality of relationships is critically important in the lives and education of our boys. It is essential that everyone they encounter at School has an interest in their development beyond their capabilities as a student. We aim to equip boys with the skills to be of good character so they can flourish as an individual, contribute to society and lead a meaningful life. Our outstanding educators adopt a research-informed approach to teaching and learning and provide an inspiring and broad curriculum using the latest technology to transform learning outcomes. They help develop each individual students’ interests and passions and we provide diversified pathway options for all our students; be it academic, vocational, performing arts or sport.

We are proud to have a very connected and engaged School community which promotes a culture of diversity and inclusivity. These relationships extend well beyond the boys’ departure, through our TGS Old Boys’ Association and our Past Mothers’ Group. Families return year after year to continue their connection with the School as a direct result of their positive experiences here and the lifelong friendships they have made.

I warmly invite you to visit us in person, tour our facilities and meet our staff and students. You can book a tour at any time to discover what makes a Toowoomba Grammar School education so special.
